Peas!

It's pretty cool how quick things go once they get started :) The green beans are getting big (we ate three on Saturday. I loved them, hubby and toddler were less impressed) and the peas are growing too. It's cool how pea pods grow right out of the flowers. The husky tomato plant isn't doing much for us, but the Santa plant has about 12 tomatoes on it, all small and green, but growing.

The rest of my gardens seem to have turned to jungle-like wild-flower gardens. I think we are past peak for the perennials. We do have some blackberries growing in the overgrowth of our backyard. I'd like to figure out how to separate and preserve them from the rest of the brush. My neighbor mentioned putting up a small fence for them to climb on. Maybe we'll get to that next year.

More veggies

We went away for four days and came back to green beans (long and skinny) and flowers on the pea plants. Yay! We stopped at my parents in NY on Sunday and my mom has full-grown peas in her garden. I think maybe I planted mine too early. Would that make sense? Probably it was too cold and that slowed the growth. I'll try planting mid-late May next year. See if that does any better.

We have tomatoes...

And green bean flowers... making progress. The peas seem to be growing well, but I don't see any pea pods yet. I wonder when they come. Come to think of it, I don't see any flowers either. I wonder if you can get lots of growth with no flowers and peas? Probably.

Santa tomatoes

I have two tomato plants, Santas and Huskys. Both plants are growing, but the Santa plant is growing much faster and has flowers and fruit. The Husky is still small and so far no flowers. I need a bigger stake for the Santa plant. The one I have now is maybe 2 1/5' and the plant is a good 6" higher, with flowers at the very top.

Green bean flowers

Still only one cucumber plant and I'm not really sure its even a cucumber plant :) Its tiny whatever it is, so I'm not expecting anything from it. The carrots seem to be doing well, but how do you really tell? There is lots of green growth above ground, so I'm assuming there is some orange growth below ground :)

Baby is hungry now. More later. I keep trying to get to the flower gardens, but always get sidetracked by the veggies :)
